Pedro Pascal is certainly having his moment, with popular roles in "Game of Thrones," "Narcos," "The Mandalorian," and now "The Last of Us." Talking to Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show," Pascal describes the unique circumstances surrounding his casting as Joel.
According to Pascal, the process was a quick one, and happened primarily over Zoom while he was in London, and the producers were in LA. The time zone difference meant that while Pascal was gaining excitement for the role, it was getting late. After signing off he decided to take an Ambien to calm himself down and help him sleep... which is when he got the phone call informing him that he had gotten the part.
Sleeping pills are powerful, and a groggy Pascal forgot that he had landed the role until checking his phone. Luckily, his performance means we won't be forgetting him anytime soon.
